By joining the Johnson Outdoors IT team as the Senior Data Engineer you will have the opportunity to combine your love of the manufacturing & engineering process with your IT skills to support hardware & software solutions, data standardization and integrations. Based in either Mankato, Minnesota or Eufaula, Alabama manufacturing facilities, you'll have incredible access to a variety of outdoor activities whether skiing and snowmobiling in winter, or kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking or more in summer. Both areas boast a wide variety of amenities including a vibrant arts and culture scene and a host of unique, creative dining options.
About the Role:Technical Data Engineer focused on supporting hardware and software solutions including the application and database layers within engineering, manufacturing, and operational areas. Manages Engineering, Management and Operations (EM&O) systems data standardization and integration with other systems (e.g. ERP, PLM, Quality and Customer Service) and repositories (e.g. SQL, DB, Azure, AWS).
What you will be doing:

  • Implements and manages data integration from manufacturing floor end points to other systems (such as ERP, PLM, Quality, Customer Service) and repositories (such as SQL DB, Azure, AWS).
  • Works with EM&O groups to support related software applications and hardware including day to day support, regular maintenance, and periodic upgrades
  • Develops database design specifications and monitoring processes to optimize system performance.
  • Performs application-level database administration including monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Designs, analyzes, and configures data workflows.
  • Assists in data standardization and integration for projects and ongoing application support.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, and resolves application technical configuration or application database related issues.
  • Champions the change management process to promote a controlled development process and minimize risk to the organization.
  • Provides backup to other corporate resources as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • May require occasional travel to other manufacturing locations

What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or equivalent.
  • Typically requires a minimum of five years of experience in technical roles supporting application and database configuration and infrastructure in a engineering and/or manufacturing environment. 5 years supporting engineering, manufacturing and enterprise-level solutions, 5 years of SQL server database administration and support, and 5 years of experience with SQL server reporting services (SSRS).
  • Demonstrated experience working and supporting EM&O related functions.
  • Server (Window, Linux) level administration experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent workload management skills to ensure successful completion and balancing of conflicting project priorities. Skills in balancing multiple priorities associated with complex multi-phase/multi-dimensional projects.
  • Experience with other data integration platforms (e.g. Workato, SSIS, Mulesoft, Orchestrator) desired
  • Knowledge of other analytic and reporting tools (e.g. SAP BO, Tableau) desired.
