Job description

 

The Middlesex Sheriff's Office ("MSO") is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Senior Data Analyst ("Analyst") to work in the Administrative Offices of the MSO located in Woburn, MA. The Analyst will work with individual departments and administration to coordinate, streamline, and visualize an array of data being gathered at the MSO. The Analyst will also be responsible for gathering, linking, and cleaning data that will be used for reporting requirements. The Analyst will also work with the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Fiscal Operations on grant funded projects, reporting requirements, and other budget-related initiatives. This is an exempt, full time, at-will employment position that reports to the Chief Financial Officer or their designee.

 

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Collecting, analyzing, interpreting and presenting quantitative and qualitative data from disparate systems, including data warehouse, medical records, and other data repositories;

 

  • Training data team members on data integration systems;

 

  • Designing and managing experiments, surveys, and data collection efforts;

 

  • Designing data warehouse/reporting schemas that advance the MSO's financial and programmatic reporting needs; 

 

  • Collaborating with full-time and contractual staff to manage hardware and software systems (SQL, Excel);

 

  • Providing analysis of data obtained in context, looking for patterns and forecasting trends to help make recommendations for funding and policy changes;

 

  • Working with MSO staff to ensure that complex statistical concepts and data analytics are explained efficiently and accurately;

 

  • Preparing materials for submission to grantor agencies and foundations; 

 

  • Working with other internal departments and outside public safety agencies to compile data and provide data visualizations for presentations; do one-off and repeatable Extract Transfer Load ("ETL") work to support the MSO;

 

  • Building and managing ETL processes for internal departments; 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Working with external researchers, including research institutions, to coordinate efforts to conduct research in a correctional setting;

 

  • Collaborating with the MSO Legal Department to ensure Memorandums of Understanding (MOU), Data Use Agreements (DUA), and all researcher related contracts meet the minimum standards of ethical research in a correctional setting;

 

  • Working closely with Data Analysts to build data integrations that quickly and effectively solve reporting needs; 

 

  • Assisting the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Fiscal Operations on any day-to-day operations within the fiscal department, as needed;

 

  • Other work duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

 

The individual selected for the position of Senior Data Analyst must be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency and must comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Criminology, Statistics, Data Analysis, or a closely related field preferred;
  • Proven ability to gather, synthesize, and present current research and trends in criminal justice, healthcare, and social science;
  • Mandatory proficiencies should include:  Microsoft Word; Excel; Access; SQL query and data transformation skills, including development of Dashboards, Crystal Reports and MS Access-based Reports.  Microsoft SQL Server, R, Python, and SPSS expertise a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of industry research methodologies and techniques;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, and with other internal departments in a fast-paced environment and execute close attention to detail;
  • Strong written, communication, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and time-management skills;
  • Ability to complete multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining comprehensive and cohesive records. 

 

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.  The applicant must have an active valid driver's license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.
