HubSpot’s Legal and Compliance team is a key business partner and trusted advisor that strategically counsels the leadership team to ensure HubSpot grows in a compliant and ethical way while managing risk in our culture of autonomy, customer centricity and accelerated growth.
We’re looking for Senior Counsel, Product to help grow our Product, Engineering, Privacy, and IP (PEPI) group on the HubSpot Legal Team. Reporting to our Associate General Counsel and Director, Product Legal, and working with cross-functional teams and leaders in the Product and Engineering org, you will have a range of responsibilities.
In this role, you’ll get to:
Provide holistic, responsive, and business-forward product legal counseling to HubSpot product and engineering teams, such as those supporting our AI and data services groups.
Drive AI ethics and trust initiatives across the organization and assist with implementation of an AI governance framework; track and provide guidance on developing laws pertaining to AI and data.
Proactively implement changes to processes and procedures in anticipation of regulatory and business developments.
Work as part of a cross-functional team, synthesizing input from multiple subject matter experts into a cohesive product legal strategy
Create and update enablement materials (training, written guidance) for legal team members and cross-functional stakeholders on current and emerging AI issues.
Be a leader on emerging technologies and related evolving compliance requirements, regularly being a thought leader with respect to ethical and responsible innovative approaches to technology adoption
Engage with product development and engineering leaders to ensure appropriate legal considerations are taken into account in the development and launch of our products and services
Collaborate with other legal and product stakeholders to develop creative solutions for novel, complex legal issues related to product development and launch.
Monitor privacy and AI trends across markets to determine trends and issues for the company to address.
Partner across the Legal and Compliance team, helping to foster and build the legal business partner model for the team
We are looking for people who:
Possess a Juris Doctor and are in good standing and licensed to practice law in the US, UK or Ireland with at least 8 years of legal experience in both law firm and in-house settings, specializing in emerging technologies, product development, engineering, privacy, and IP.
Enthusiastic about AI tools, including ML and LLMs, and their application to HubSpot products.
Knowledgeable in the legal and ethical implications of AI, especially in large language models and machine learning systems.
Collaborate closely with data scientists and technical experts to provide legal guidance on AI system development and deployment.
Work closely with engineering and product teams to offer legal advice on product development and deployment, adapting to novel situations.
Skilled at balancing risk and opportunity to drive smart decision-making.
Develop and promote responsible AI practices across functions to manage bias, ethics, safety, and transparency risks.
Efficiently communicate regulatory obligations and risk management processes to business partners.
Capable of producing concise written legal analyses and business communications.
Blend business acumen with legal expertise to drive operational excellence while aligning with HubSpot values.
Cash compensation range: 157700-252300 USD Annually This resource will help guide how we recommend thinking about the range you see. The cash compensation above includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
