Senior Community Engagement Manager


Status:
Full-time, Exempt

Salary: $76,500 - $81,000 with Benefits

Location: Main office in Raleigh, NC; position is hybrid (2 days in office and 3 WFH), must be local or intend on moving to the area; able to work remotely based on the team needs and priorities for 2024; requires frequent travel across the Triangle and other parts of the state.

About the position:
NCAAT is seeking a full-time Senior Community Engagement Manager to vision, plan, and implement our Community Engagement efforts across NC. The candidate should have a deep commitment to grassroots organizing, mobilizing communities, and coalition building with organizational partners. In addition, the candidate must have an interest in engaging communities in political participation and leadership. As a senior manager-level position in a small non-profit, the ideal candidate should be prepared to operate with a start-up culture mindset without needing to depend on established workflows. The candidate should also be able to leverage their own experience and structures to develop a work plan for the Community Engagement Department, supervise a team, and maintain project goals/objectives.As the resident lead expert, the Community Engagementmanager will need to be able to think outside the box and communicate effectively with staff members in the areas of voter engagement campaign strategies and endorsements.


The senior manager’s primary function will be to oversee the progress of the department's team and its members, as well as execute organization goals to improve community-building efforts. Selected candidates will be expected to work with our Community Partnership Network (CPN) and communicate regularly with co-workers, reporting to the Director of Programs. This position is ideal for a candidate with strong relational organizing and interpersonal communication skills, an interest inCommunity Engagement, and a desire to learn more about Asian American communities in North Carolina.


Role Responsibilities:

Own and oversee all of NCAAT/IA’s Community Engagement Program

  • Manage and direct a robust community program where community members feel empowered and nurtured
  • Activate community members around relevant issues and policies, leveraging NCAAT’s in-language capacities
  • Ensure thorough and secure tracking of Community Engagement data and key performance indicators using organizational tools
  • Represent NCAAT’s Community Engagement program to funders, partners, and allied organizations and at conferences on behalf of our community work as assigned
  • Stay up to date with other organization’s community programs and national trends
  • Stay up to date with issues relevant to Asian communities in NC, using collected data to synthesize in-language educational materials to be shared with stakeholders and NC communities.


Lead and manage members of the Community Engagement Team

  • Supervise the Community Engagement Coordinator, overseeing day-to-day progress and offering guidance throughout the planning and implementation of their projects and tasks
  • Support Community Engagement team by actively identifying resources and trainings to encourage professional growth
  • Lead by example, cultivating an inclusive and culturally competent team environment while setting high standards for communication strategies, creativity, and project execution
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback from supervisees, implementing performance improvement plans as needed in constant communication with Program Director


Manage NCAAT/IA’s Community Engagement Outreach

  • Build NCAAT’s community base and recruit volunteers through tactics including but not limited to door knocking, phone and text banks, tabling, relational organizing, and facilitation of community gatherings and educational events.
  • Build a deeper understanding about issues impacting Asian communities in NC through by attending and/or organizing relevant listening sessions, forums, and other gatherings
  • Engage directly with community members at in-person events and community hubs
  • Build new and nurture existing relationships with community members and organizations to expand NCAAT's membership
  • Provide proper oversight and controls for staff managing and interacting with community members and partner organizations


Create an annual Community Engagement plan for NCAAT/IA

  • Help develop the 2025 Community Engagement plan
  • Serve as a thought partner to our Programs Director, helping plan and execute one-year visions for the community work
  • Develop short-term and long-term strategic Community Engagement plans, proposing new ideas and strategies for feedback to supervisor as applicable
  • Hire and supervise Community Engagement staff
  • Oversee and approve all plans put forth by community team members, with feedback and input from department director


Own and manage our Community Partners Network (CPN) program

  • Recruit Asian community-led organizations to apply to our CPN program
  • Lead the CPN application process, determining appropriate criteria for acceptance
  • Oversee contracts and relationships each CPN member, supporting each group to ensure completion of their commitments and disbursement of regrants
  • Facilitate CPN group meetings, educational workshops and other gatherings
  • Lead the Community Partners Network by overseeing the vision, guiding collaboration, delegating and ensuring timely completion of tasks, and nurturing relationships with and between partner groups and members


Own and manage our language access advocacy and education program

  • Collaborate with our research partners and community groups to collect stories and data about how language background and limited-english-proficiency impacts Asian American community members in NC
  • Work with research partners and communications team to synthesize gathered information into a shareable format to be distributed to community members
  • Create and implement an plan to disseminate our research and mobilize community members around local language accessibility advocacy
  • Stay up-to-date about language accessibility issues and policies that may impact NC Asian communities


Core Competencies:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience planning and implementing events
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience mobilizing community members and volunteers of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity
  • Demonstrated interest in political and civic engagement
  • Detail-oriented program planner who can take ownership of projects from start to finish, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Strong team management and leadership experience, with a community care-centered approach
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt and build relationships with people from many communities and language backgrounds consistently
  • Technical fluency and comfort learning digital tools to collaborate remotely with a team
  • Interest in keeping a pulse on local, state, and federal policies that impact Asian American communities
  • Experience with tools for community outreach and organizing such as VAN, GetThru, Reach, etc.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours
  • Driver’s license and reliable access to a car
  • Connection to and/or knowledge of Asian communities in NC is a plus
  • Basic skills in any Asian language is a plus
