Senior Clinician Physical Therapist: Neurology - Acute Care

We are seeking an experienced team member to take on the role of Advanced Clinician on our Acute Neurology/Neurosurgery service line. In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a Physical Therapist, the advanced clinician serves as a mentor to staff, a clinical consultant and instructor within the dept while coordinating special educational programs and participating in Dept. and NYP specific service excellence initiatives. Must demonstrate advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of the population admitted to the acute Neurology/Neurosurgery service line. In addition, prior experience in the Neuro critical care unit is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with a varied multidisciplinary team, and handle a fast-paced environment, always keeping patient experience at the paramount. Commonly encountered diagnoses include stroke, TIA, Parkinsons disease, tumor resections, craniotomies/craniectomies, GBM, acoustic neuromas, VPS and ALS.
This is a full-time position with shifts on Monday- Friday with weekend and holiday coverage.
Required criteria:
- 5 years of experience as a practicing PT.
- At least one prior year within the Acute Neurology/Neurosurgery service line.
- Prior experience in the Neuro Intensive care unit.
- Completion of 20 Continuing education credits in Physical Therapy with at least 50% within Neurology specialty area.
- Completion of 10 Continuing education credits within the past 3 years.
- Bachelor's degree in physical therapy.
- New York State Physical Therapy license.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
Preferred Criteria:
- Board certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapists.
- Prior rotation in the inpatient rehab unit.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills.
- Exemplary professionalism, teamwork and flexibility.
- Vestibular rehab competency-based certificate from the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Certified stroke rehabilitation specialist certification.
- Experience with general Acute care and Cardiopulmonary patient populations
- Masters or Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
