General Description
The Orange County Department on Aging has an opening for a Senior Center Coordinator.
The work involves the responsibility for planning, coordinating, and implementing recreational, social, leisure and educational programs for adults aged 55 and over at Orange County Senior Centers. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and coordinating Senior Center activities within the Department for the Aging.
Work is performed under the general direction of Senior Centers Administrator with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests. Supervision over others is required of this position. Position does related work as required.

Supervises program employees by instructing/guiding, assigning, and reviewing work, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, and recommends promotions, discipline, and terminations.
Develops, organizes, promotes, and directs a variety of programs to meet the diverse needs of older adults, including day and overnight trips, recreation, leisure and educational programming, special events and recreational outings.
Oversees the management of the Senior Center, including day to day operations, facility management, including building maintenance, problem solving and meeting the public on a daily basis.
Serves as the staff liaison for the Friends of the Senior Center non-profit organization.
Elicits community and organizational support for senior services programs.
Interprets and explains County policies and procedures.
Assists in preparing and administering program budgets.
Develops and maintains an effective volunteer program.
Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.
Adheres to the department's safety rules and regulations.

Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, recreation, geriatrics, human services, public health or a closely related field AND two (2) years of experience coordinating adult service programs including one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Must be willing to obtain a CPR certification within 1 year of hire date.
All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS
Ability to physically perform the basic life operational support functions (with or without reasonable accommodation) of standing, walking, stooping, keyboarding, talking, sitting, bending, kneeling, grasping, hearing, handling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, reaching and repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to possess the close visual acuity to operate a computer terminal and perform extensive reading.
