Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 DOE (IC4)

If you are passionate about new space and the commercial Earth observation industry and want to take a leading role in helping to grow it over the coming years, this position offers a unique chance to have outsized impact.  


In partnership with Umbra leadership, you will be responsible to drive execution of our Government engagement strategy. You will be responsible for building and maintaining internal and external processes which drive quality customer engagements (QCE), as well as collaborating with Growth and Execution staff to lead and support effective engagements. In addition, you will be part of a Growth-focused team responsible for outreach to our customer community to ensure Umbra is increasingly included in the formation of US and NATO defense, intelligence and civil mission strategies. You will actively contribute to Umbra's internal development, setting priorities and serving as a voice of the customer. You will be Umbra's go-to Capture Manager, setting the bar for how Umbra wins, leveraging your technical horsepower and community experience to create confluence of Government needs and Umbra capabilities. In addition, you will support the development of  long term campaigns, joining internal development with customer-directed R&D activities to realize joint US-Umbra goals.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Create a culture of Capture excellence which starts and ends with mission and customer focus, prioritizing strategic approaches and technical impact
  • Own and manage Umbra's Capture Center of Excellence to simultaneously increase Umbra's market share and decrease internal friction
  • Lead and train others in the execution of quality customer engagements, ranging from RFI to RFP responses
  • Represent Umbra at key industry events, speak publicly as a thought leader in the industry, and work to influence broader industry discussion with the support of our marketing team. 
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships.  
  • Convey technical requirements to the software and space systems teams and be a vocal advocate for customer needs internally. 

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated success in the aerospace and defense community, with a focus on space
  • Demonstrated success in the GEOINT community
  • Experience leading the capture of a wide range of programs with the USG ranging from seedlings to major acquisitions
  • Availability to travel monthly for conferences and customer engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a cross functional team
  • Experience recruiting, managing, and coaching colleagues 
  • Desire to speak publicly and persuasively as a formal Umbra representative 
  • Aptitude for understanding technical concepts and explaining them to lay audiences 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Desire to work in a dynamic and fast-paced startup environment 
  • Most hold a TS/SCI clearance

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience with multiple relevant USG agencies including NRO, NGA, SOCOM, Air Force, USSF, SSC, or NASA
  • Experience with direct user outreach to build product demand
  • Experience developing, operating, or using the data from space systems
  • Skill designing, implementing, and scaling formal business processes


This position is in-office in Washington, DC, with flexible work arrangements available as needed.
