Senior Buyer

Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing, the Senior Buyer develops and maintains a supplier base that supports company objectives regarding quality, cost and production requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

• Source and select vendors for the purchase of parts at the most cost effective price, ensuring the meeting of quality standards and delivery requirements.
• Negotiate and audit freight terms and costs.
• Purchase high cost parts.
• Address and resolve the disposition of rejected and/or non-conforming parts.
• Address and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Process purchase orders according to departmental procedures, entering data into the computerized system.
• Assist in developing departmental policies and procedures.
• Expedite purchased materials as needed.
• Maintain records associated with the purchasing function, supplying relevant information to the accounting, sales and production functions as required.
• Assist in training lower level buyers as needed.
• Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
• Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
• Supplier/ Part number set up in HyPro business system
• Manage supply base purchase schedules weekly utilizing business system signals
• Negotiate supplier pricing to minimize the impact of supplier price increases
• Market test and resource product to contribute to HyPro cost reduction program
• Update HyPro business system as needed – ship to location, pricing, quantity, etc.
• Work with finance to resolve supplier invoicing issues
• Assist HyPro plants in expediting product
• Update surcharge log by supplier- monthly / quarterly updates
• Present price changes to the sales dept via the NOPC log

Requirements

• 5 years minimum experience with purchasing cast and forged product
• Must have excellent communication skills- verbal and written.
• Proficient in Microsoft office programs (excel, word, PowerPoint)
• Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Must possess the ability to work in a team environment.
• Must have a basic understanding of sand cast parts and foundry process (preferred)
• Must be able to navigate through customer supplied drawings and specifications.
• Education- College Degree in engineering discipline (preferred)
