Position Summary:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for the continuous flow of goods and services supporting Harvard Bioscience manufacturing operations. This individual will participate in sustaining supplier relationships, ensure timely delivery of materials, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The position will have significant interaction with production, shipping, and receiving personnel. The Senior Buyer will work under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizing MRP plan and procure materials ensuring customer order fulfillment requirements
- Manage MRP system data driving accurate reporting
- Engage with key suppliers and sustain long term strategic partnerships
- Negotiate total cost of material for assigned commodities or product lines
- Participate in supplier corrective actions related to supplier performance and delivery
- Resolve invoice discrepancies as needed
- Engage and support Production, Engineering, and Quality Departments as needed to resolve supplier issues and ensure stable incoming material flow
- Partner and participate with cross functional teams supporting new product development
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Working knowledge of RoHS, Conflict Minerals, and REACH regulations
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems
- Experience with Kanban, VMI, and breadman inventory techniques
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Good interpersonal skills - the ability to work effectively with others to achieve team goals
- Customer-focused with the ability to work comfortably with internal and external customers
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, Outlook, & PowerPoint
Experience:
- Minimum five years' experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience sourcing electro-mechanical components
- Lean Manufacturing training/certification a plus
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree desired or related Professional Certification and requires a minimum of five years'
Travel:
Must be able to travel to visit key suppliers
Travel may amount to 15%
