Job description

Established in 1996, NOVA was originally founded to provide Environmental Consulting, Geotechnical Engineering, and Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services to the design and construction community, largely in the southeastern United States.  Since our founding, NOVA has added additional service lines such as Facilities and Building Envelope, Forensics, Municipal and more. NOVA Engineering is currently seeking a Building Official (Senior Inspector) in Northeast Georgia (Athens, Jefferson, Winder, Commerce, etc). Primary duties will include a variety of routine and complex technical, supervisory and administrative work in plans review and analysis, inspection, and enforcement to determine compliance with all applicable ordinances as well as accepted standards relating to building. Provides technical assistance to field inspectors in all matters relating to building. May also perform Building Code inspections and/or plans review (building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing – as licensed) on residential and commercial buildings, as well as managing specific projects related to these types of code inspections.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews codes, regulations and standards to keep abreast of the latest edition of the International Code Council (ICC) Building Code.
  • Attends technical seminars.
  • Participates in training conferences, and other continuing education programs to keep current with technology, maintain skills, and meet current licensing requirements.
  • Building Code Review and/or Quality Control Inspections as needed
  • Prepare written and electronic reports, and issue notices of correction
  • Explain and interpret code and/or quality control regulations or requirements
  • Recognize, evaluate and properly resolve unique problems or situations
  • Maintain effective customer service relationship with clients and the public
  • Assist the inspection management team with business development
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager
  • Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Education
  • ICC Building Official (CBO) certification is required.
  • ICC certification in one or more of the following disciplines is preferred: Building (Structural), Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Plumbing
  • Strong knowledge of building and related municipal codes, building inspection methods and techniques and construction materials, methods and techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of erosion and sedimentation control laws and Best Management Practices.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning principles and practices.
  • High School diploma or equivalent education; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • Valid State Driver’s license with clean driving record
