American Freedom Insurance Company (AFIC) is a midsized, profitable, and expanding nonstandard automobile insurance company doing business in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee with plans for Texas. The position is located in Mount Prospect, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable including the development of workpapers
• Contribute to the monthly preparation of financial and regulatory statements and management reports
• Prepare monthly client statements
• Participate in the collection of overdue balances
• Actively identify and complete process improvement projects
• Collaborate with other units to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant information
• Ensure financial data complies with professional and regulatory standards
• Prepare workpapers for entering financial data into the general ledger
• Assist with the preparation of financial accruals, deferrals, reclassifications, and interdepartmental entries
• Responsible for bank and other reconciliations
• Perform account analysis to ensure that journal entries and balances are correct
• Assist with the filing of regulatory insurance taxes and fees
• Assist in responding to requests from auditors
• Additional responsibilities, as assigned

Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree in Accounting
• 3+ years of experience in financial reporting, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Advanced Excel skills - proficiency in V-Loop Ups, Pivot Tables
• Insurance experience including statutory accounting principles a plus
• Familiarity with US GAAP is a plus
• Analytical aptitude
• Proficiency in MS Office products
• Strong work ethic and ability to innovate
• Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, vendors and varying levels of management and staff

The Position:

• Competitive Salary
• Regular Full Time (40hrs per week) 8am-5pm Monday-Friday
