Job description
The Fixed Assets Senior Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager. The position is primarily responsible for the areas associated with Fixed Assets and Sales Tax reporting.
For Fixed Assets the Senior Accountant is responsible for tracking capital projects, processing capital expenditure invoices, fixed asset accounting, maintaining the fixed asset system and all the related reporting, reconciliations, and journal entries. This includes updating and tracking capital projects and comparison reporting actual expenditures compared to budgets. Additionally, this position is responsible for recording the transfer and retirement of all assets for the Company and for the capital expense forecasting and budgeting process.
Additional responsibilities would include calculating and reporting Sales and MTS tax returns on a monthly or quarterly basis as required by the state.
Role & Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly new fixed asset listings and recap reports
Prepare monthly depreciation entries
Track Capital Projects
Prepare adjusting journal entries
Reconcile various asset and liability accounts as assigned
Prepare schedule for annual filing of property tax
Prepare and process Sales and MTS Tax Returns
Job Requirements:
Education:
This position requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
Experience:
This position requires at least 3-5 years of related experience with fixed asset accounting.
Experience in performing full-cycle accounting close.
Knowledge:
Strong technical skills in applying US GAAP rules are a plus.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
Exposure to the following industries is preferred: grocery retail, warehousing and distribution.
Skills and Ability:
This position requires a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Effective communication will be important when planning, executing, and reporting on the results of internal projects as well as presenting other matters to management.
Demonstrated numerical aptitude required.
Other skills that are important include: building rapport with management, analytical skills in order to identify the source of issues identified, and strong organizational skills to be able to manage area of responsibility and projects effectively and efficiently.
Ability to cross train staff accountant as needed.
Salary:
$70k to $80K.
