Job description

Evergreen Services Group is a San Francisco based holding company that acquires and operates B2B services companies across North America. Since its founding in late 2017, Evergreen has completed 80+ acquisitions across Managed IT Services, Cybersecurity, Financial Software and Government Services. We are driven by a people first mission to marry capital allocation with inspired operations, thus creating North America’s best home for businesses.

The Evergreen holding company team is comprised of 35+ professionals based in San Francisco who are focused on capital allocation, M&A, executive level hiring, strategic board leadership, and finance and accounting. Evergreen is a uniquely long-term oriented holding company that seeks to hold and grow businesses indefinitely rather than follow the 5-7 year holding period of a typical private equity fund. This allows us to take a truly long-term view on performance and people. Evergreen is backed by Alpine Investors, a leading private equity firm focused on the services and software industries with $16B+ in AUM.

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to take a key role in the accounting activities for our multi-entity Holding Company. The Senior Accountant's responsibilities will include preparing financial reports, maintaining the general ledger, owning the monthly/quarterly accounting close, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with tax and audit preparations.

We are looking for an analytical, self-motivated, individual who is experienced in accounting and financial analysis with ability to work in a high-growth, dynamic environment. The ideal person will balance a positive, team first attitude with a willingness to roll-up-their sleeves, allowing them to seamlessly function as a strong individual contributor and a collaborative team player. This role will report to the Director of Accounting and Corporate Controller at Evergreen.

Responsibilities

  • Handle accounting activities for all holding company entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Manage and accurately complete the financial month/quarter-end accounting close process.
    • Lead the month-end close process. Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts, including intercompany, to the general ledger.
  • Monthly Holding Company close, including working with the Holding Company teams to review expense accruals, and reporting of Holding Company performance with variance analysis.
    • Maintain financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Manage the accounts payable function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to company policies.
    • Manage the end-to-end process of accounts payable transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to both tax regulations and established policies and procedures.
    • Implement internal controls to mitigate financial and compliance risks associated with accounts payable processes.
    • Conduct regular audits to identify and rectify discrepancies, maintaining the integrity of financial records.
    • Foster positive relationships with vendors, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues promptly to ensure a smooth and collaborative payment process while adhering to tax and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with the tax advisors to provide comprehensive financial information, supporting the preparation of tax returns and ensuring compliance with all relevant tax regulations.
  • Assist with audit preparation and audit requests.
  • Lead all administrative tasks for accounting and finance organization.
  • Drive process improvement and assist with miscellaneous projects, compliance tasks and other ad-hoc accounting.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Key contributor in major accounting team projects across Evergreen (e.g. system migrations, streamlining processes/controls, compliance with new accounting guidance, metrics tracking, etc.)
  • Manage and accurately complete financial analytics.

Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience in accounting or related field, with a solid understanding of US GAAP, preferably in Financial Services or IT space.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in month-end close, creating journal entries and working with general ledger software.
    • Experience with our core financial portfolio systems a plus – QuickBooks, Bill.com, Expensify, Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, and Power BI
  • Ability to identify issues, flag to management, and participate in timely and appropriate research and resolution.
  • Ability to read and analyze financial reports. Can present financial information in a logical manner.
  • Experience supporting financial audits and tax requirements.
  • Progress toward CPA desired or other professional designation is a plus.

Personal Characteristics

  • Analytical – finds meaning and action in numbers and is a data-driven decision-maker.
  • Organized and able to prioritize.
  • Willingness to dive-in where needed in a lean, fast-paced acquisitive environment.
  • Interest in growing with the company, as Evergreen expands across new and existing industries.
  • Impeccable integrity and ethical standards.
  • Works collaboratively and energetically.
  • Excellent communicator – written and oral.
  • Self-aware, accepting, honest, open, and respectful of others.
  • Ability to create and execute on processes using best practices.

Other Information

  • This role is primarily remote (preference for those around Chicago, IL or Columbus, OH)
  • Quarterly travel to our HQ in San Francisco is required
  • The salary range for this role is $110K - $120K base + up to a 20% bonus
  • Competitive benefits package including full medical and dental coverage, unlimited PTO, 401(k) match, family planning support, and much more (for full time employees).

We encourage you to apply even if you feel that you do not meet all of the above qualifications. No one ever meets 100% of the requirements. We look forward to your application!
