Job description

Responsible for overall managing, servicing, selling (when appropriate), and retaining client accounts. Maintain a high level of professionalism within the marketplace and the office. Serve as the primary representative in insurance related activities within an assigned territory. Sell benefit programs to existing clients and work with various areas within Keenan & Associates to coordinate renewals and other activities relevant to accounts.

Keenan specializes in providing consulting services in the areas of: Employee Benefits, workers' compensation, loss control, financial, and property & liability.


  • Responsible for retention of business in assigned territory.
  • Establish and maintain client relationships by providing regular visits and open communication.
  • Use consultative sales techniques to manage assigned accounts and suggest new services and products and make recommendations based on analysis of customers existing insurance packages, circumstances and needs.
  • Expand existing relationships by recommending additions or changes to current insurance programs in anticipation of the customers needs.
  • Manage assigned accounts by calling on policy holders to deliver and explain policy updates and renewals.
  • Gather, evaluate, and negotiate carrier renewals on assigned accounts insurance programs.
  • Manage marketing’s for insurance programs of assigned accounts which includes all appropriate data is collected, the appropriate marketing forms are completed and all BenefitPoint marketing procedures are followed.
  • Develop and deliver customer presentations.
  • Day-to-day client consulting on a wide range of benefit programs.
  • Collaborate with the P&C counterpart in your assigned territory to maximize client retention and sales opportunities.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of accounts within assigned territory.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and efficient service to customers.
  • Work with Service team to prepare literature, booklets, and complete internal procedures for installation of new cases.
  • Interface with client/carrier in resolution of billing, premium and eligibility problems.
  • Assist in the creation of medical Plan Documents, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and amendments.
  • Coordinate the proofing of master contracts and amendments.
  • Prepare material as requested by client for Insurance Committee Meetings and JPA’s
  • Present information as requested by client for Insurance Committee Meetings and JPA’s
  • Accountable for routine and complex claim problems.
  • Ensure the coordination of annual open enrollments and conduct employee orientation meetings as required.
  • Communicate required legislative changes to clients as needed.
  • Process renewals and premium invoices as required.
  • Gather data for employee benefit studies from assigned clients that provide existing and potential clients with a comparison of benefits within their county and industry, as well as determine coverage information on potential clients.
  • Prepare and produce scheduled reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain SalesForce.com CRM system on assigned accounts.
  • Delegate and when needed, train service personnel as required.
  • Maintain frequent interaction with carrier representatives.
  • Maintain positive attitude and flexible hours.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of group insurance experience, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance programs. 
  • Must have and maintain an active California Life & Health license.
  • Must be a self-starter who is detail oriented and has excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to build relationships with prospects, clients, and Senior Management.
  • Possess negotiating skills and mathematical ability. 
  • General knowledge of management and decision making of California Public Agencies (i.e., insurance committees, bargaining units, etc.). 
  • Basic underwriting skills and understanding of funding methodologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.  Adept at accessing business data from the Internet when required.

Compensation:

 

The target salary range for this position is $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 (US Dollar) annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location. Hybrid work environment flexibility.
