Senior Academic Advisor - Advisor Training Coordinator

Responsibilities and Duties
The Senior Academic Advisor - Advisor Training Coordinator, will report to the Associate Director of Academic Advising, Retention and Completion (AARC), and is responsible for managing Advisor Training programming for faculty or staff that advise undergraduate students at Towson University. The coordinator will evaluate and enhance the current Advisor Training programs offered by AARC, expand the support offered to departments, and create an effective and sustainable model to support current faculty and staff as well as new employees to the university.The Advising Training Coordinator will also be responsible for the “Deciding Student” program, students who are still choosing their majors, for AARC and will revise the current model to become more effective and efficient.  Assessment of effectiveness of both programs will be a responsibility of the role.In their role as an Academic Advisor, the Coordinator’s other responsibilities include providing appropriate and effective academic advising to a caseload of freshmen and second-year students without a declared major; enrolling freshman students for their first semester of coursework at TU; providing academic advising to students and support to academic departments during the Transfer Orientation Program in the winter and summer; providing academic advising services to students on academic alert, academic warning, and academic probation; participating in professional development activities to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies related to academic advising; and performing other duties as assigned in support of the AARC mission, the Division of Enrollment Management, and the university.Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:

Bachelor's DegreeThree years of academic advising experience in a college or university setting, including experience in developing or maintaining training programs.The selected candidate must have excellent communication skills; interpersonal and group presentation skills; ability to exercise sound professional judgment in relation to dealing with students and colleagues; fundamental knowledge of student development models and current academic advising practices; working knowledge of student services and programs in higher education; experience working with diverse student populations within higher education and demonstrated cultural competence; proven success in providing friendly, high-quality customer service; proficiency in Microsoft Office and other common technology platforms.Experience presenting to large groups.

Preferred:

Experience working with students still deciding on their majors.Experience working with college faculty.Supervisory/management/leadership experience.A strong background in advising software and using platforms for the purpose of student advising.
