In the 2023-24 school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region is comprised of four schools educating almost 3,000 students, kindergarten through eleventh grade in the North and West sides of Jacksonville, Florida:

About KIPP Bold City High School

KIPP Bold City's vision is to be a High School built on student voice and choice. Bold City offers a variety of options for its students- including honors classes, Advanced Placement classes for all, and career/technical education. Classes are chosen based on student and family interests. As the school grows, we seek to add more career tracks as well as Dual Enrollment. We also offer a variety of extracurriculars and sports to students. We seek teachers that are aligned with our philosophies around student voice and choice and are flexible to meet the interest areas of students.

Job Description

KIPP Bold City High School seeks a Seminar Teacher to start in this role in July of 2024.

The Seminar Instructor is focused on teaching our College Knowledge and Career Skills curriculum. They provide one-on-one college and career advice to students to ensure a strong and strategic postsecondary program match for all students. They also help students understand course credit requirements and tracking their GPA. They will report to the School Leader of Bold City High School and the Director of the KIPP Forward Program. The ideal candidate for this position has a background in Florida college admissions and working with young people from low-income communities. This individual must have experience teaching and possess strategic planning skills, as well as outstanding written and verbal communication skills. They must have a demonstrated interest in serving low-income students and be dedicated to doing whatever it takes to support our students to and through college & career.

College Knowledge and Career Skills

  • Advise and coach all students, including students with unique circumstances through the financial aid process.
  • Create access to college resources and opportunities available to support underrepresented populations.
  • Knowledge of SAT/ACT registration processes and the impact on college access.
  • Attend all KIPP Forward regional PD.

Team Player

  • Work effectively with KIPP Forward regional staff and the school administration team at KIPP Bold City High School
  • Work closely with the school counselor 
  • Maintain a collaborative team with consistent communication flow to all key stakeholders and teammates.
  • Responsible for supporting KIPP students through lesson planning, lesson execution, and classroom management.
  • Maintain effective relationships with KIPP Jacksonville’s external partners.
  • Participate in and effectively prepare for one-on-one check-ins with the Director of KIPP Forward

Data Management

  • Maintain constant and consistent communication on the data progress of students with key stakeholders including KIPP Foundation, College personnel, CBOs, School and regional leadership, along with students and families.
  • Utilize various student management platforms to track, progress monitor and submit student data, including, but not limited to Power School, Focus, Google Suite, Excel, KIPP Foundation-approved tools, etc.
  • Progress monitor all KIPP Forward post-secondary access goals including (but not limited to) completion of student and family one-on-ones, applications (including wish list finalization, essay completion, transcript submission, ED campaign), FAFSA, career integration (including YouScience, major selection, internship opportunities), and decision phase (including financial fit, major/career fit, socio-emotional fit, etc.).

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting KIPP High School students through rigorous and thoughtful lesson planning, application management, lesson execution, and classroom management. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the School Leader.
  • Support college counseling department special programming including college visits (overnight or day), financial aid nights, college fairs, college knowledge 101 workshops, and wish list approval nights.
  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive culture within the classroom.
  • Meeting all deadlines as required by the High School, KIPP Forward regional team, and KIPP Foundation.

Compensation and Benefits

Our current compensation and benefits structure is commensurate with experience.

  • Our current starting salary for the Junior Seminar Instructor is $50,000

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • 3+ years of professional work experience in college access or admissions advising preferred.
  • Florida Teaching Certification
  • At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom.

  • Experience in public education or non-profit a strong plus
