Seeking a person currently receiving developmental disability services (DD) to be a Self-Advocate Coordinator!
As the Self-Advocate Coordinator, you will work with Kerr programs and staff to promote respectful, person-centered services. You will take the lead in speaking with new employees and people with IDD.
This part-time position requires 10-15 hours per week. This is a hybrid position, you will work at home and at our Kerr Administrative Center, 424 NE 22nd Avenue, Portland, OR.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Advises advocacy messaging, including public relations, social media, and other materials.
- Trains new hires and other staff on advocacy. Works with the training team to ensure trainings are accessible.
- Serves as the Kerr Self-Advocacy Committee Chairperson. Completes all duties and activities requested of the committee.
- Works with the Best Practices Manager to implement trainings for people with disabilities. Training topics may include workplace etiquette, social and emotional health, advocacy, etc.
- Facilitates and participates in focus groups with people with disabilities, families, care providers, and others.
- Facilitates and participates in informational panels.
- Provides advice and input on accommodations, services, supports, and the satisfaction of people we serve.
- Keeps up to date with policies, laws, and current trends that may impact persons with disabilities and their services.
- Speaks on behalf of Kerr at public and agency events.
- Presents on lived experiences in New Hire Orientation.
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills, including Outlook, Word, and Video Conferencing software with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Good written and verbal communication, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Demonstrated reliability and collaboration
- Interest in public policy
- Applicants must have knowledge of self-advocacy and self-determination and be able to represent individuals' views.
- Ability to meet all background check and reference requirements
- Individual must be eligible and currently receiving DDS supports
