WATC has a close partnership with the Geophysical Detection of Nuclear Proliferation (GDNP) University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) and, if successful, you will have the opportunity to support a broad range of research and engineering projects. As the Network Security Technician, you will directly support active research and operations by helping to maintain and improve network topology and cyber hygiene for the WATC scientists, staff, and students. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:- Knowledge of Cisco systems.
- Knowledge of field-based IT troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Ability to develop cybersecurity awareness within the organization.
- Demonstrated expert in subject matter with advanced knowledge of the operation and maintenance of networks and network communications systems, including WAN/LAN, high-speed networks, public telecommunications, Internet, and other network technologies.
- Knowledge of methods of installing and maintaining network systems, PCs and workstations, and operating systems by performing troubleshooting and by applying knowledge of cabling standards and installation standards.
- Ability to work in remote locations without direct supervision.
- Ability to install, cable, and configure voice, data, and video network components in accordance with IS engineering specifications, and with codes, regulations, standards, and policies.
- Ability to implement computer networking technologies and methodologies and operate a variety of personal computers and related equipment.
- Ability to interpret data results for reporting to relevant funding agencies and partners.
- Ability to identify, diagnose and resolve complex network problems with equipment logistics, system setup and configuration, system security, and software installation.
- Ability to lead, train, and evaluate lower-level staff and to problem solve a variety of operational problems in data processing and computer operation systems and related technology.
- Familiar with Linux OS and system administration knowledge.
- Current CompTIA certificate (or equivalent) or working towards it.
- Associate's degree in IT, Cybersecurity, computer science, physical sciences, electrical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Six years progressively responsible experience as an IT technician, Cybersecurity/CMMC, and/or in Scientific/IT field work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must be able to obtain a Secret level clearance.
This position is full-time, Grade 80, term-funded, exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, based on education and experience.

This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. While there may be a current opportunity for remote work, the successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office no later than 30 days from written notice provided by the university.
