SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the supervision of the Director of Support Operations, the Security/EMT/Life Safety Manager is responsible for assuring a safe and secure environment for all residents, visitors, and staff; providing and supervising EMT services; and, managing the adherence to Life Safety protocols and requirements. The Security/EMT/Life Safety Manager will ensure all emergency calls initiated by residents or staff are responded to promptly and local authorities are notified as needed. The position is also responsible for scheduling Security/EMT staff, monitoring and reviewing interdepartmental communications, and implementing/ enforcing the department and company policies and procedures. An integral part of this position is ensuring total compliance with all Life Safety protocols and requirements for healthcare facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
1. Ensures total compliance with all Life Safety protocols and requirements for a healthcare facility.
2. Ensures staff patrol community premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, equipment, and vehicles.
3. Trains staff to respond to fire alarms to include investigating locations and accompanying the fire department throughout the facility.
4. Monitors, reviews, disciplines, trains, supervises all functions of the Security/EMT staff.
5. Calls and ensures ambulance or non-emergency medical transportation is dispatched as needed and according to authorized medical protocols, training staff to do the same.
6. In the event of suspicious activity or the presence of unauthorized persons on the property, notifies police and assists in investigation.
7. In the absence of the front desk concierge and after hours, security and EMT staff answers telephone calls, takes messages, answers questions, and provides information to residents.
8. Conducts monthly staff meetings to discuss training needs and safety concerns, focusing on creating and maintaining a consistent level of service from the department.
9. Supervises, monitors and adjusts controls which regulate building systems such as air conditioning, furnace, or boiler.
10. Completes reports of daily activities and irregularities, as well as reviewing all reports taken by Security/EMT staff on matters such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
11. Observes, corrects, and reports any potential safety hazards reported by staff or noticed on campus.
12. Interviews and recommends for hire qualified individuals.
13. Adheres to all established protocols for the level of EMTs employed at The Village, ensuring all are up-to-date with certifications and training.
14. Audits and monitors the jump bag for correct supplies, ensuring always stocked and ready.
15. Prepares reports and other documentation according to specifications and protocols, ensuring copies are sent to the Medical Director and CEO.
16. Supports all departments, especially after hours and on weekends, being the front line of defense for any potential service failure. This includes but is not limited to, resident services, parking, maintenance needs, administrative needs, resident deliveries, and healthcare support.
17. Supervises all security staff and department functions including quality checks performed after hours and via in-house systems.
18. Ensures all Security/EMT staff are in proper uniform when on duty.
19. Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Must be able to read, write and follow written and verbal directions.
  2. High School Diploma or GED required.
    1. Minimum of 3 to 5 years as EMT and/or Life Safety Manager required.
  3. Minimum of 3 to 5 years supervisory/management experience required.
  4. Valid drivers license required.
  5. Solid knowledge of regulatory and healthcare inspection processes and training mandates.
  6. EMT Basic or Advanced EMT and CPR certifications required. Life Safety and Paramedic training preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Must be able to navigate throughout the campus as well as travel to area hospitals.
  2. Required to talk to and listen to residents, families, and staff.
  3. Sit, stand, bend, lift, and carry during working hours including the ability to sit with residents and family members to counsel and provide comfort.
  4. Ability to walk and run short distances to provide emergency care.
  5. Must be available on call when not on property.
