POSITION OVERVIEW
The Security Specialist II is responsible for maintaining, planning, coordinating, and responding to all activities related to the physical safety and security of Gentex assets, employees, and visitors. Security Specialists also work in our Gentex Security Operations Center monitoring multiple security and life safety systems.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop and enforce emergency management and life safety policies, procedures, and programs that address key issues and concerns for compliance with company, insurance, and government requirements or regulations.
  • Monitor dispatch center equipment and technology, and facility equipment to ensure proper operation and escalate alarms as needed.
  • Champion the operation of fire protection, sprinkler, and security alarm equipment and systems.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the operation of multi-facility card access system, including but not limited to, issuing badge access and keys, maintenance, etc.
  • Investigate and respond to security and safety related notifications using appropriate job-related resources and equipment, document incident reports, and liaise with law enforcement, security personnel, and leadership, as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Emergency Response Team Members to address life safety needs during building emergencies and other crises. Assume a role within the Incident Command Structure and provide guidance to Emergency Response Team Members during emergency and hazmat situations, as needed.
  • Participate in relevant security training.
  • Proactively de-escalate potentially hostile situations and individuals, as needed.
  • Provide overwatch for the security team during safety planning and relevant building emergencies and other crises.
  • Other duties as assigned.

HOW YOU'LL DO IT

  • Maintaining high level of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality with respect to company matters.
  • Complying with all Company policies and procedures, safety regulations, company safety policies and safely perform all duties, including but not limited to, promoting a safe workplace.

WHAT TO BRING
  • A High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 4 years of active law enforcement or applicable and related active-duty military service.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours and/or holidays as needed.
  • Meet the following physical requirements:

  • High level of hand dexterity/coordination. Some assembly processes require repetitive grasping, pushing, gripping, lifting and manipulation forces and weights up to 5 lbs.
  • 20/30 corrected eyesight with color recognition.
  • Ability to stand, remain stationary, and/or move about for 8 hours.
  • Some positions require repetitive lifting up to 35 lbs.

  • Some positions require frequent to repetitive bending, reaching, squatting, or otherwise positioning the body to load and unload materials from racks, skids, and carts of varying heights.
  • Other physical requirements may apply to some positions.

WHAT WILL HELP
  • 5+ years of active law enforcement or applicable and related active duty- military service.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with life safety equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or occupational safety preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain relevant state certifications.
  • General understanding of monitoring systems and radio communications.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual or Spanish-speaking skills preferred.
