Benefits
Benefits
All TSBVI employees become members of the State of Texas Employees Retirement System which results in an automatic monthly payroll deduction of 6% contributed toward eventual retirement benefits. Employee contributions are refunded if employment terminates before retirement is reached. As a state agency, TSBVI employees also contribute to Social Security.
A selection of health care plans and various forms of optional insurance is available to our employees and their dependents.
The State's contribution to employees' insurance premiums is sufficient to cover the cost of health insurance for full-time employees (30 hrs /week) with no dependents. Part-time employees (less than 30 hrs/week) pay 50% of their health insurance premium. For benefits purposes only, a full-time employee is an employee who is regularly scheduled to work at least 30 hrs/week.
Full-time employees (40 hrs/week) earn paid sick leave at the rate of 8 hours per month and at least 8 hours of annual leave (vacation) per month. Earned leave is pro-rated for part-time employees (less than 40 hrs/week). The amount of annual leave earned monthly increases with the length of state service.
These and other optional benefits will be explained fully to applicants who are offered and accept employment.
For more information, review the New Employee information available from the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERSlink opens in a new window).
NOTE: Some of the above information about leave and holidays will vary somewhat for contract employees (primarily teachers).
