The primary function of the Security Operations Center Officer is to provide protective services for the patients, families, staff, and property of Children's National Health System (CNHS). The SOC is responsible for maintaining a chronological list of all events via the Dispatcher Module. Prepares written and accurate complaint/incident reports on routine and emergency situations. Maintains operational control of all Special Police Officers on duty and dispatches accordingly to routine and emergency calls/codes. Operates and maintains surveillance over all camera and alarm systems to include satellite clinics in Maryland and Virginia utilizing state of the art equipment. Frequently works with medical professionals in advancement of patient safety . Responsible for securing and safeguarding evidence seized in criminal cases for possible court proceedings and all lost & found property received. As the main point of contact for Security Operations, the SOC is entrusted with enforcing the established hospital policies and in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia. SOC personnel must maintain a tactful and courteous demeanor in the exercising of said duties. SOC personnel will present a professional and polite demeanor at all times whilst dealing with both internal and external customers.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Two year degree and/or completion of some college coursework. (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience
2 years Special police officer (Required)
2 years Working in a control room, as a dispatcher , or in a Security Operations Center . (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Valid US Driver's license required.
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
Ability to work in a team environment in high pressure situations.
Must be able to wear department issued body armor.
Must possess excellent customer service skills.
Ability to multi-task while handling volatile situations under stressful conditions.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
Experience in alarm response, monitoring CCTV systems, and dispatching Security or Law Enforcement personnel.
Knowledge of the criminal code in Washington, DC.
Experience working as an emergency responder (law enforcement, fire/rescue, military).
Knowledge of HIPP A rules and restrictions.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Able to obtain a Special Police Officer Commission from the W ashington, DC Metropolitan Police Department (Required) Certified as a police dispatcher or to work in a 911 Call Center as an Emergency Communications Operator (Required)
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (Required)

- Perform productive surveillance of the hospital utilizing state of the art equipment, garage and perimeter; recognize conditions which are or will compromise the security and/or safety of the organization and take immediate action to mitigate; proactively and consistently submit work orders to correct safety/security violation discovered during surveillance operations.
- Immediately notify supervisors of security/safety-related problems or issues.
- Take proactive measures to mitigate thefts, disturbances and other criminal incidents.
- Adhere to departmental and hospital policies, procedures and directives as it relates to the management and processing of visitors to the hospital.
