Officers of BPS provide safety and security to medical staff, so they can focus on important tasks like, writing reports, aiding patients, and meetings. The Secure Transport Officer is responsible for the comfortable, safe, and secure non-emergent transportation of patients from hospital to healthcare facilities.
Uniform Standards: Duty is to be performed in plain clothes, adhering to the dress code: no jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes, or logos. Khakis or similar pants, polo shirts, or button-down shirts are acceptable. Baseball hats are allowed in solid black, blue, or tan without logos
Secure Patient Transportation: Your primary responsibility is to provide secure patient transportation exclusively between Hospital and Behavioral Health Facility. Avoid deviation from this route. Transports between other Central Oregon locations is not permitted while on duty.
Paperwork Protocol: Complete and ensure all necessary transport paperwork is filled out accurately. Obtain signatures from both hospital and health Facility staff upon taking custody and drop off during each transport.
Custody Initiation: Custody officially begins when the patient is placed into the vehicle, and the required paperwork is signed by the caregiver. Your job title and responsibilities transition from a security officer to a Transport Officer at this point.
Times and Information Accuracy: Emphasize the importance of recording accurate times on transport paperwork. Ensure all information is filled out properly and in a timely manner.
Vehicle Check: At the start of each shift, conduct a thorough check of the transport vehicle. Remove any items (such as pens) that should not be present. Vehicles should be checked periodically throughout your shift to make sure no items accidentally got inside the vehicle. All patient belongs must go in the trunk of the car. Nothing should be put inside the car. Check and record the gas level to ensure it is sufficient for the entire shift.
Assistance in Loading/Unloading: Always seek assistance from a caregiver or security personnel during the loading and unloading of patients. Patient safety is paramount, and collaboration ensures smooth transitions. All patients departing or arriviving must be transported in a wheelchair.
This position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities, as well as on-call shifts. Candidates must possess and maintain a clean driving record and DPSST unarmed certificate.
