Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified teacher with Social Studies and English Language Arts certifications who will be able to develop and sustain academic-focused instruction for his/her students. The teacher will identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement. The teacher will develop the use of Social Studies and science inquiry skills and concepts while motivating each student to excel in these content areas.
DISTRICT OVERVIEW:
Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 14,000 pre-K - post secondary students. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for the Livonia Public Schools is in excess of $160 million, with state funding of $8,700 per pupil.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Administration in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree; teaching concentrations (major and/or minor) in Social Studies and English Language Arts.
  • Valid Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsements in RX or CC, and BA or BX, preferred.
  • A major in the subject area is strongly preferred; minor acceptable with teaching certification.
  • A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students.
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Skills in individualizing instruction
  • Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture.
  • Exhibit a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments.
  • Teache content and skills in Social Studies and general science utilizing curriculum based on MDE guidelines, state curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Adapt Social Studies and ELA materials and methods to develop engaging, relevant, sequential lessons and assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Integrate school improvement goals into the classroom.
  • Maintain student classroom records using district provided electronic gradebook.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and school counselors through conferences and other means to discuss curriculum, assessments, and student progress.
  • Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide a safe and productive classroom environment.
  • Identify student needs and work collaboratively with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students.
  • Administer and monitor group tests.
  • Participate in school improvement initiatives (at the district and school level), committees, and collaborative learning teams.
  • Execute other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by building administrator.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association. The deadline for applications is 4:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2023.This position will remain open until filled.
