QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education preferred.
- Holds a current Alaska Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in grades 6-12 Math endorsement.
- Demonstrates successful experience in teaching Math programs in the secondary environment and using the Alaska standards.
- Familiar with MAPS or other student assessment protocols.
- Successful rural teaching experiences or can demonstrate the ability and knowledge to work with Native Alaskan students and all students in an isolated and rural setting.
- Adjusts physically and mentally to challenging and remote environments.
- Plans, organizes, develops, prepares and delivers under minimal supervision educational programs to students that reflect use of HCSD curriculum, materials and instructional design.
- Able to incorporate best teaching practices in the classroom.
- Experience with integrated place-based curriculum, incorporating Tlingit language and culture.
- Differentiates culturally responsive curriculum and designs instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
- Experience in and understanding of ongoing formative and summative assessments; can explain and demonstrate effective use of such assessments in a classroom setting. Is able to use data to improve instruction and enhance student learning.
- Incorporates positive behavior strategies in teaching and managing student behavior.
- Demonstrates proficiency in use of technology and common software programs.
- Communicates and consults with parents and other staff and demonstrates effective teaming skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Alaska State Professional Practices Commission and teacher code of ethics. Understands appropriate teacher/student relationships between secondary students.
