Make a difference this summer by helping to support Earth Native Wilderness School's awesome Summer Camps helping kids build connections to the outdoors!
The Camp Cook at Earth Native Wilderness School ensures that high quality and nutritional food is provided to camp participants during our Summer Camps located at our beautiful campus in Bastrop, TX. The Camp Cook reports to the Camp Director, supervises the kitchen, the preparation of food, potential menu planning (rough camp menu already exists), shopping for supplies, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen (Osage Pavilion Space), and maintains food safety for the camp.
Camp runs 5 weeks over the summer
Essential Functions:
- Cook dinner daily for the group of 35 people (total of 4 dinners Monday - Thursday), prepare basic lunches (Tuesday - Thursday), and set out cold breakfast foods for the mornings (Tuesday - Friday)
- Shopping locally and operating within an established budget
- Follow menu plans which support healthy, nutritious meals for campers
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of food supplies
- Capable of providing menu options for a variety of dietary preferences and restrictions (I.e. vegan, gluten-free, and accommodate for common food allergies)
- Communicate with parents at camp sign-in on Monday morning about food allergies and dietary restrictions
- Provides courteous and professional service to campers and ENWS staff
- Maintains all kitchen facilities and equipment in a proper high quality and clean manner
- Responsible for kitchen cleaning and organization of camp kitchen
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
- Walking is frequent. Repetitive stooping and bending with frequent lifting of light to heavy objects is required. The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time is required as well as the ability to operate knives, kitchen utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Job requirements include obtaining a Texas Food Service Manager's Certificate, and/or Texas Servsafe Certification upon hire
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Experience cooking for groups of up to 35 people
- Available to work all scheduled camp weeks (see dates below)
- Texas Food Service Manager's Certificate and/or Texas Servsafe Certification upon hire
- Dietary needs and restrictions/intolerance knowledge
- Must be able to pass a background check
Pay/Hours
Estimated 35-40 hours/week - Actual hours will vary depending on the skill and ability of the hire to complete the job (5 weeks)
Pay rate $1000+ per week - DOE

June 3-7, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 15-19, July 29-August 2
