As a Seasonal Park Worker, you will have the opportunity to work at many of Metro's regional parks, cemeteries, and nature parks.
We're looking for people who share Metro's commitment to making sure that all our region's diverse communities, including communities of color and low-income communities, benefit from a world-class park system.
We are hiring 30+ seasonal positions that will be reporting to one of the following three (3) locations. All locations offer the same shifts. Please note that these locations are not on bus routes or public transportation.

Shifts:
  • All positions work a 10-hour workday - 4 days per week - 40-hour workweeks.
  • All available shifts include a weekend day off.
  • Required to report Wednesday-Saturday, or Sunday-Wednesday.
Please note: Seasonal Park Workers are a type of Variable Hour Employee and shall work no more than 1,200 hours in a fiscal year.
Location # 1. Blue Lake Regional Park: 20500 NE Marine Dr, Fairview, OR 97024
Available Schedules:
  • Day Shift: 7:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Closing Shift: 10:30 am - 9:00 PM - May 1st - September 14th. Schedule will adjust with closing time prior and after these dates.

Location # 2. Borland Field Office: 2661 SW Borland Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062
Available Schedule:
  • Day Shift: 6:00 am - 4:30 pm

Location # 3. Oxbow Regional Park: 3010 SE Oxbow Pkwy, Gresham, OR 97080
Available Schedules:
  • Day Shift: 7:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Closing Shift: 10:30 am - 9:00 PM - May 1st - September 14th. Schedule will adjust with closing time prior and after these dates.

As a Seasonal Park Worker you will:
  • Assist in providing a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.
  • Respond to emergency situations in which loss of life of a patron is a possibility (i.e., drownings).
  • Provide general customer service, such as giving directions and answering questions; provide information and assistance at picnics, campsites, weddings, special events and cemeteries; explain park rules and regulations; and monitor restricted use areas.
  • Call Park Ranger or supervisor for enforcement, citation and first-aid/emergency response or other similar health and safety issues.
  • Ensure grounds are clean and orderly. Sweep litter, glass and leaves from roads, paths and other areas; empty and clean compost, recycling and trash containers; clear roads, paths and other areas of debris, ice or snow; and chip limbs and branches.
  • Clean and maintains restroom. Re-stock paper towels, toilet paper and soap; sweep and mop floors; clean and disinfect sinks, mirrors, counters, hand dryers, toilets and urinals; and unstop toilets, sinks and floor drains.
  • Assist with simple, routine garden work, such as mowing, raking, edging and trimming lawns; water and weed lawns, shrubs and flowerbeds; cut brush; assist with planting, pruning and thinning; and lay and replenish bark.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties around storage yards and buildings. Clean equipment, tools and supplies and return to designated areas making sure they are prepared for next use; load and unload trucks; wash and fill trucks with gasoline; and use pressure equipment to wash down areas.
  • Perform basic facility maintenance, including painting, graffiti removal, cleaning gutters and roofs, straightening and installing signs; and assist with digging and backfilling trenches and holes for pipe repair and installation.
  • Drive trucks with trailers to transport equipment to various parks and cemeteries locations.
  • Assist Park Rangers in opening and closing facilities and buildings in adherence with security procedures.
  • Assist with set-up and tear down for events. Set-up includes setting up canopies, tables, chairs and other equipment; turning on equipment; and helping with supplies. Tear down includes taking down canopies, returning tables and chairs to storage, turning off and cleaning equipment and work areas; and preparing area for next use.
  • Assist with traffic control, including parking vehicles, placing barricades and flagging traffic.
  • Properly dispose of fluids, chemicals, equipment and packaging.
  • Report facility and equipment problems and health and safety issues to Park Rangers, Lead or management.
  • Collect fees at park entrance booths and campgrounds. Operate cash registers and credit card terminals; counts money.
  • At end of shift, process revenue; prepare deposits and reconciliations.
  • Please note that positions may require extensive driving throughout the Metro region.

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold and inclement weather.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays; works assigned schedule and exhibits regular and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and follows safety policies, practices and procedures.

TO QUALIFY:

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate or sufficient education to demonstrate the ability to read instructions and perform routine math with accuracy OR
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities
  • Customer service experience in a public setting
Special Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license
  • First Aid/CPR certification (within two months of hire - we provide the training!)
Driving Record Check: The candidate selected for the position will need to pass a Driving Record check prior to being hired. Speeding tickets do not necessarily preclude employment and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Working conditions: Long periods of sitting and standing. Custodial, grounds and operational duties are performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and inclement weather. Works unassisted or alone at times. Performs strenuous physical labor. As necessary to meet workload demands, may work outside of typical schedule including evening/weekend hours and holidays as assigned.

  • Cashiering experience.
  • Ability to speak a language other than English.
REPRESENTATION
This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by LIUNA 483. It is classified as a Seasonal Park Worker. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
