Under the supervision of the Patrol Superintendent or Foreman the primary duty will be traffic control. Other duties may consist of road maintenance, road improvement projects, and provide services related to the State and County Highway systems.
Normal work hours are ten hours per day Monday through Thursday. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license with excellent driving record and be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. These are non-benefited, limited term positions that will approximately be May - September. This is a non-CDL required position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs duties as assigned such as various highway improvement, maintenance and repair work
- Operates mowers and other equipment as directed
- Consults with supervisor(s) to obtain project or procedure changes
- Performs manual work
- Performs preventative maintenance in accordance with prescribed methods for vehicles, motorized equipment and hand tools assigned to the Highway Department
- Performs related work, including labor and semi-skilled assignments
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year experience working with a variety of equipment/tools related to this position; preferred
- Knowledge and skills to use the following small equipment: measuring devices including measuring tape, mobile radio and small hand tools such as shovel, pick, axe, and weed eaters
- Proficient skills in the operation of various types of light equipment
- Ability to work odd hours and week-ends as needed
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees and the public
- Ability to read, write, understand, follow and issue oral and written instructions in the English language
- Ability to keep neat, clear and accurate records
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas in spoken and written format so individuals may effectively understand and convey communications
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Inductive and deductive reasoning - ability to combine separate pieces of information, or specific answers to problems, to form general rules or conclusions; includes coming up with a logical explanation for why a series of seemingly unrelated events occur together and deciding if an answer makes sense
