About the position:
Maggie Sottero Designs is seeking a talented Seamstress to assist with stitching, cutting and pattern making. The seamstress will be producing handmade garments, designing clothing and sewing together finished garments. As a Seamstress, you should have a keen eye for detail, and be familiar with standard dressmaking techniques. You will participate in the design process from start to finish, constructing final garments from a selection of components, including linings, sleeves, collars and buttons. Expertise in pattern cutting is essential as you will measure and mark out fabric according to these plans. Ultimately, your job is to deliver high quality outfits on time using the finest materials.
Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Construct, deconstruct, and revise bridal gown with instructions from designer, design assistant or head seamstress.
- Sewing and construction of sample pieces.
- Repair/alter gowns for Factory Managers,
- Returns Department and the Design Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; 8-10 years of special occasion clothing sewing experience. Able to use industrial sewing machine and serger.
- Other- Knowledge of fabrications and how they behave once constructed into a gown. Background with corsets preferred. Able read patterns and know how to position each piece on the fabric according to grainlines.
- Language Skills-Able to read and interpret general business correspondence. Able to write clear and concise correspondence. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Reasoning Ability -Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Computer Skills -To perform this job successfully an individual should have basic computer skills.
- Must be able to see, touch and handle gowns, fabric, and trims. Requires long periods of sitting. Will also stand, stoop, and bend periodically. May occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
