Job Title: Seafood Buyer
Department: Seafood
Reports To: Meat Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary:
The Seafood Buyer oversees the Seafood Department's operations, manages inventory, and ensures exceptional customer service. This role involves ordering seafood products, maintaining inventory levels, and collaborating with vendors. The Seafood Buyer contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Requirements:
  • Engage customers in a friendly manner, provide product information, and assist in locating seafood products.
  • Manage own time effectively, adapting tasks based on department needs.
  • Collaborate positively with team members, offering and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Adhere to work and food safety policies, ensuring store cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
  • Observe all company rules and policies, complying with specific department guidelines and responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Order seafood products based on anticipated sales, seasonal demands, and customer preferences. Maintain optimal inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Stay informed about current ads, promotions, holidays, and events. Plan for weekly ads, events, and holidays, collaborating with the Manager to respond to store trends.
  • Maintains the appropriate profit margin in accordance to the approved pre-set budget, which entails, but is not limited to: sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and waste management.
  • Maintain professional relationships with seafood vendors.
  • Ensure the Seafood Department is clean, attractive, and well-organized. Adhere to merchandising standards and create appealing product displays.
  • Receive and inspect merchandise, communicating any issues to management and the merchandising team.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and product rotation following merchandising standards.
  • Coordinate in-store tastings, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Notify Meat Manager, Manager on Duty, or Store Director of any situations affecting customer service, safety, or store productivity.

Customer Service Skills:
Engage customers in a friendly manner, share product information, and assist in locating seafood products. Strive to exceed customer expectations and enhance the shopping experience.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the seafood department and experience as a Seafood Buyer highly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in ordering and managing inventory is highly preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency required, including Excel and inventory software.

Language Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Mathematical Skills:
Basic to intermediate math and computation skills are necessary.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions. Exercise good judgment in decision-making.
Knowledge of English:
Ability to speak, read, and understand English is essential.
Physical Demands:
This position involves frequent to continuous standing and walking throughout the shift. Occasional climbing stairs, step stools, and ladders may be required. Lifting and carrying items weighing 1-50 pounds are occasionally necessary.
Work Environment:
Work occurs in a grocery store environment with varying temperatures. Exposure to wet and slippery surfaces, moderate noise levels, and certain allergens and chemicals may occur. The Seafood Buyer may use tools and equipment such as box knives, scanners, hand trucks, and industrial kitchen equipment.
