Position:  Vialing Scientist – Recombinant Proteins (REP)

  Location:   Cranbury, NJ

Position summary

Our Recombinant Proteins (REP) Business Unit in Cranbury, NJ is part of our Biosciences Division.  REP unites deep scientific expertise with a collaborative culture to build a product portfolio that includes cytokines, growth factors, antibodies and ELISA kits used to support the research of our academic, government, biotech, and pharmaceutical customers.   

The position of Vialing Scientist is responsible for preparing the company’s products for final sale by converting bulk material into finished goods, testing, labeling and storing the vials for future orders.

What will you do?

  • Operate standard laboratory equipment (i.e. centrifuges, HPLC’s,, pipetting machines and pH meters).
  • Final filling of products and media for in-house use and stock inventory.
  • Fill custom product orders.
  • Perform final inspection tests (HPLC, SDS-PAGE gels, Absorbance at 280nm, Endotoxin, etc.) to produce reliable and precise data to support product quality and/or scientific investigations.
  • Document vialing activities performed in vailing batch record in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and ensure completeness and accuracy of all documentation associated to work performed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment for self and others.
  • Perform room and equipment cleaning per current procedures.
  • Perform proper material handling and storage in a manner that ensures “First In First Out”.
  • Manage inventory to ensure laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
  • Prepare samples where applicable.
  • Label and Package products according to guidelines.
  • Proactively communicate issues to supervisor and colleagues as needed to ensure optimal work environment.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to colleagues when needed.
  • Remain current on technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability.
  • Final fill of GMP product line. In addition to the above and below, tasks include but not limited to the following:
    • Follow line clearance requirements to maintain cGMP and cGLP in all work areas.
    • Prepare and set-up aseptic filling equipment in a cleanroom environment.
    • Follow aseptic filling procedures for final filling of products.
    • Follow proper cleanroom behavior and gowning procedures.
    • Perform cleanroom and equipment cleaning and sanitization per current SOPs.
    • Follow ISO 9001 and GMP guidelines.
  • Demonstrate and drive the Thermo Fisher values – Integrity, Intensity, Involvement, and Innovation (The Four I’s).
  • Other duties as assigned by Lead or Manager.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular biology or related field and 2 years lab experience or Master’s degree plus 1 year lab experience.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of aseptic processing in controlled environments, preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills to include a working knowledge of MS Windows, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret technical documents, and communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing).
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow strict safety checks and procedures, and work in a safe manner including wearing all required personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 standard and certification requirements preferred, or training will be provided as needed.
