About Astellas Gene Therapies

 

Astellas Gene Therapies is an Astellas Center of Excellence developing genetic medicines for patients with rare, life-threatening diseases. Based on our innovative approach to developing genetic medicines, as well as our industry-leading internal manufacturing capability and expertise, we have become the Astellas Center of Excellence for their newly-created Genetic Regulation Focus Area. We are currently exploring three gene therapy modalities: gene replacement, exon skipping gene therapy, and vectorized RNA knockdown, with plans to expand our focus and geographic reach under Astellas.  Responsibilities

  • Research and implement efficient AI/machine learning (ML) algorithms and feature exploration methods
  • Develop worfklows from existing algorithms, or modify bioinformatics methods to analyze next generation sequencing (NGS) data, including but not limited to long-read sequencing, RNA-seq, whole genome sequencing (WGS), scRNA-seq.
  • Develop and implement novel algorithm and methods for NGS data types to meet R&D objectives, and the demonstration of the validity of the methods through prototypes and benchmarking using appropriate controls.
  • Run, maintain, and add to bioinformatics methods and workflows for analysis of large-scale data using AWS cloud compute
  • Work within the bioinformatics team to review and test code
  • Stay current of the latest advancements in bioinformatics and apply innovative approaches to research projects.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Molecular and Cell Biology or related disciplines.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with gene expression/NGS data analysis using AI/ML
  • Expertise with common NGS visualization and processing tools (e.g., IGV, samtools, DESeq2).
  • Proficiency in Linux/Bash, Python and R.
  • Familiarity with Cloud
  • Demonstrated experience with version control tools (e.g., git).
  • Support routine data management for clinical next-generation sequencing projects (i.e. data transfer, analysis, storage, and retrieval)
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams as a strong team player as well as independently.
  • Successful history and the ability to handle several fast-paced projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with viruses, especially Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV)
  • Industry experience

 

 

Salary Range:  $112,500 - $150,000 (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on

experience)
