AbbVie is investing heavily in a new research enterprise in Cambridge, Boston - the Foundational Neuroscience Center (FNC). The FNC is investigating the fundamental biological mechanisms focused on Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease to discover and develop disease-modifying therapeutics for these devastating diseases.
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual to join our dynamic neuroscience team as Scientist I/II. You will work closely with our research team to identify and validate novel drug discovery targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
- Responsible for establishing in vitro cell-based models to support validation of novel drug targets in the field of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Responsible for development of in vitro assays to support proof-of-concept and mechanism of action studies.
- Support multiple programs by running independent experiments in immortalized cell lines, primary neurons, and human iPSC-derived neurons.
- Execute various biochemical and imaging assays.
- Timely generation of data to support program decision making, and communication of results to team.
- Collaborate with various groups across different AbbVie sites globally.
Qualifications:
Position will be hired based on level of education and experience.
- Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, or related field with typically 5+ years of experience; Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred. Background in neuroscience considered a plus.
- Extensive bench research experience. Ability to design, execute and interpret experiments independently.
- Expertise in mammalian cell culture, generating and maintaining primary neuronal cultures. Previous experience with human IPSC-derived neurons is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with gene transfer methods, compound treatments, microscopy and high-content imaging, and biochemical techniques like western blot and ELISA.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and able to work in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and presentation skills
