Description

OVERVIEW:
The AJNR Scientific Editor is responsible for reviewing manuscripts submitted to the AJNR for scientific quality, accuracy, and novelty.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The AJNR Scientific Editor will apply an understanding of complex medical/scientific concepts to review the science of others to ensure the highest quality of published material.
This position requires travel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure that the required structure for scientific reporting throughout the manuscript are appropriately addressed
• Ensure that the conclusions reached by the manuscript authors are appropriate to and can be justified by the research methods and findings described
• Identify and address needed modifications in manuscripts to ensure that they clearly communicate the information required by readers to assess the scientific validity of the research reported
• Perform substantive scientific editing of manuscripts in conjunction with Editors
• Communicate and collaborate with manuscript authors to obtain needed additional information and clarify information presented in the manuscript
• Perform in-depth editing of all non-research content, including targeted editorials and reviews to ensure clear and accurate communication that will be accessible to a general clinician
• Assist authors in preparing graphical abstracts
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Ideal candidate would have scientific publications or prior experience as a scientific writer or editor
• Strong breadth of scientific interest, the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues
• Good understanding of scientific and statistical terminology and methods
• Prior experience in an imaging science or field highly desirable
• Familiarity with manuscript processing software desirable
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Excellent organization skills
• High attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of the editorial office team
• Track record of meeting deadlines
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Fluent English speaker
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Masters or PhD degree in a scientific discipline; experience at an association or publisher is desirable.
Salary Description
$78K - $80K annually
