Position: Science Tutor
Description: Archbishop Hoban High School has an immediate opening for a Science tutor. The primary course content is biology, but the candidate should be familiar with chemistry and physics. This position is Monday-Friday and 24-30 hours per week.
We are a private Catholic school in the heart of east Akron and our campus spans over 75 acres. Position Responsibilities:
• Build meaningful connections by creating a friendly, encouraging, professional and welcoming environment.
• Motivate students and reinforce learning objectives to ensure academic improvement.
• Recognize the different learning styles and study preferences of students.
• Use active listening strategies to allow students to determine content and pace of tutoring.
• Monitor and communicate student needs and progression with classroom teachers.
• Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice.
• Assess, measure, and document student development and progress.
• Guide the instructional process toward achieving curriculum goals and prepare for exams and assignments.
• Contribute to and participate in ongoing professional development.
• Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
Qualifications:
• Successful completion of a bachelor's degree.
• Valid Ohio teaching license.
• Prior tutoring experience in a school setting is preferred.
• Ability to work with school technology (use of academic software, Google, etc.).
• Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Have attended or willing to attend a VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training.
