Job Description:
Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general supervision, plan and direct the delivery of instructional support services available in the Biology and Earth Science Labs.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate purchase, use and maintenance of supplies, equipment, and educational materials.
Review lab procedures, techniques and equipment with instructors as needed.
Monitor monthly expenditures for supplies, student employees, instructional materials, equipment and maintenance.
Supervise delivery of lab preparations for classes such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, General Biology, Natural Sciences and Earth Sciences.
Prepare lab make-up work and provide instructional materials for use in the learning lab.
Supervise the safety and security of the lab facilities, i.e., Des Plaines and Oakton East, and the green-house, including holidays and break periods.
Provide budgetary input to the dean and the chair for equipment and supplies, provide inventory reports foradministrators, and collect information and data related to the latest techniques in laboratory procedures.
Interview, hire, train and monitor the work activities of student employees.
Assist instructors in demonstrating lab procedures as needed.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Administrative supervision is received from Division Dean, Program Chair and/or designated faculty member.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision is exercised over approximately 8 student employees.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
Two years related laboratory experience is required.
Two years supervisory experience is desirable.
Additional Information:
Schedule: Monday - Friday 40hrs
Salary: $25.50
