Job Description
The Katherine Thomas School program has an opening for a full-time, part-time or PRN Social Worker. KTS is a private Special Education school serving students with language, learning, sensory motor disabilities and/or moderate to high functioning autism. This position is responsible for providing psycho-educational and social-emotional services to students and families of students enrolled in grades K-12.
Responsibilities of the Social Worker include:
- Student counseling in both groups and on an individual basis to provide counseling centered therapy
- Parent support groups and parent conferences
- Interdisciplinary team meetings
- Integration into the classroom setting
- Liaison with community agencies
- Appropriate clinical record keeping to ensure that school standards for clinical accountability/quality programming are upheld
Required Experience for the School Social Worker:
- Active MD Board of Social Work required - All licensure levels are encouraged to apply
- Previous experience with children and working with a special needs population preferred
- Some experience with educational agencies and interdisciplinary teams
- Clinical experience in school counseling or play therapy is preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills that bring about effective communication and positive interactions with students
As a condition of employment, all employees are required to have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New hires must receive any additional vaccine doses in the appropriate timeframes to be considered fully vaccinated and submit weekly test results until they are fully vaccinated.
