Summary of Duties:
This position is structured to meet the needs of students and families in a K-5 Elementary setting. The position serves as a support role between students, their families and the school to alleviate barriers to children's success.
At the elementary building, the social work services will focus on meeting the needs of general education students. Those needs will vary by grade and individual. The Social Worker provides individual and group sessions for students with a focus on improving social skills, learning how to express themselves and meet their individual needs. The ideal person will be well rounded, flexible, motivated and intuitive to students' needs. This position requires strong communication skills with colleagues, parents and community resource agencies.
Qualifications:
- Must have a current license with MDE in the area of School Social Worker.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams is preferred.
- Experience working with families and students in a variety of settings-school, home, and community.
- Experience in facilitating small groups is preferred.
- Knowledge of community resources to support children and families is preferred.
Summary of Duties:
- Meet with individual or groups of students to address identified needs.
- Conduct social skills lessons (classroom, small group and/or individuals).
- Consult with classroom teachers on behaviors, resources, support, strategies etc.
- School Intervention Team member and facilitate student behavioral interventions.
- Support staff by assessing and providing interventions for students struggling emotionally, socially or academically.
- Collaborate and consult with parents, outside agencies and community providers to identify resources and supports related to social, emotional, and mental health.
