Description Position Title: Laboratory Associate-MASCF - 993047Position Overview: Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis. Establish or monitor quality assurance programs or activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment. Participates in process of purchasing supplies for use in lab and department. Assist in the preparation and set-up of laboratory for faculty/student use. Assist individual students in practice and learning. Provides supervision of student peer tutors in lab. Provide support and assistance related to facilities and equipment issues and repairs. Coordinates the ordering, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab. Assists faculty with designing experiments. Provides supervision of student peer tutors in lab. May teach classes or laboratory sessions as assigned.Department Specific Essential Job Functions: The Laboratory Associate assists faculty and students in setting up and conducting electronic laboratory experiments; designs, prepares and selects equipment for lab experiments. Repairs and maintains inventory of all equipment used in the laboratory, i.e., power supplies, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, multimeters, computers, etc. Sets up the Electronic Laboratory for all the electronics laboratories experiments. Coordinates, designs circuits, sets up and conducts electronic lab experiments. Maintains, rebuilds, adjusts and repairs test equipment. Assists students needing additional laboratory work. Purchases replacement parts and makes recommendations on new equipment purchases. Monitors laboratory equipment and electronic components for safety standards; maintains equipment records for periodic inspection and replacement. Issues and receives tools and equipment from students. Establishes and monitors inventory of equipment, consumable materials and supplies against minimum balances. Schedules classes for lab with coordination with instructors. Maintains software upgrades on the laboratory computers with coordination with the College Computer Specialist. Serves as an Electronic Specialist resource for students and faculty in research in the department. Assists students and faculty in using LabVIEW and Multisims software. Performs other duties as assigned.College/Department Overview: The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 135 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in 6 academic departments and the School of Engineering. The College serves more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 27 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Applied Mathematical Science, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Computational Science, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, and Nursing. Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. For further information see our website at http://www.uco.edu/cms.Qualifications/Experience Required: Requires a university degree in related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen filed that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.Qualifications/Experience Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related area is required. Experience working in a science laboratory, familiarity with an academic environment, experience with laboratory instruments and equipment and knowledge of laboratory and shop safety.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to work well with others. Must be self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to prepare and standardize solutions and reagents. Must have mechanical ability and be able to handle the physical demands of receiving, distributing and storing stock.Physical Demands:
