Description
PURPOSE:
To provide high quality classroom, group and individual therapy and instruction in the CREATIVE ARTs specialties (art, music, dance, movement) to students diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder, with a focus on functional life skills, communication/social skills, behavior coping techniques, motor skills and self-regulation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
1. Provide group and individual CREATIVE ART therapy on a daily basis per the master school and therapy schedule for students with autism and other intellectual impairments.
2. Provide daily small group instruction to students on the autism spectrum and/or students with intellectual impairments to ensure understanding and progress in the general education CREATIVE ART curriculum.
3. Consult with, collaborate, and interact with school team regarding recommendations throughout the school year.
4. Obtain approval, document, and distribute cancellation of therapy to appropriate personnel, including clinical coordinator, school administrator, and classroom
teacher throughout the school year.
5. Submit supply orders to School Administrator/Clinical Coordinator for approval at least one month prior to date needed throughout the school year.
6. Assist classrooms during extra-curricular activities and community-based instruction as needed throughout the school year.
7. Establish and maintain a consistent form of communication with the teachers,related service team, case managers and parents/guardians of students as needed on caseload throughout the school year.
8. Provide support, resources, and recommendations for classrooms on caseload as needed throughout the school years, including modeling strategies, discussing student progress, and assessing student needs.
9. Manages inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments, and project needs for budget planning.
10. Collaborate with related service therapy team as to ensure continuity of services across various settings.
11. Attend weekly classroom meetings with administration, related services, and classroom staff to discuss students' strengths, progress, areas of concern, and
action plans.
12. Participate in monthly related services meetings to review/improve student progress and systems procedures.
13. Attend weekly supervision with the Clinical Coordinator.
14. Participate in both school and agency mandatory professional development and trainings annually or as specified on the school professional development calendar.
15. Create, develop, and train other school professionals on current trends and evidence-based research methodologies within the CREATIVE ARTs disciplines.
16. Participate in ongoing professional development to ensure certifications and licensure remains current.
17. Develop and maintain a safe, fair, and respectful learning environment that celebrates the diversity of the student population.
18. Work collaboratively within a team environment.
19. Comply with professional code of ethics and school policies.
20. Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies that affect therapy practice and participates in ongoing professional development to ensure
certifications and licensure remains current.
21. Maintains American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR, as well as the National Crisis Institutes CPI certification, in addition to any other required trainings through the Illinois State Board of Education.
22. Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
23. Complete any other essential duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy preferred, a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or equivalent required. Current registration or board certification required (MT/MT-BC, ATR/ATR-BC, DMT/DMT-BC). Current Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or ability to obtain such within 6 months of employment preferred. One year experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder and/or experience working with individuals with other intellectual disabilities preferred. Must obtain a Professional Educator License through the Illinois State Board of Education.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required touse manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift up to 30 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis.The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and
the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI.Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including
communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. School work environment with a noise level of normal to loud. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform successfully the essential functions of this job.
