General PurposeThe Bus Driver is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of all students to and from school while following the assigned routes and times. The Bus Driver must be consistently on time and reliable to ensure the department is able to serve the students at all times.Main Job Tasks and ResponsibilitiesOperate Class B motor vehicleAttention to detail and schedulesOperate conventional and transit style diesel, gasoline, and propane busesBe knowledgeable in reading route sheets, following directions, and staying on timeConduct pre and post trip inspections before and after all tripsReport defects and malfunctions IAW established proceduresMaintain clean bus exterior and maintain bus in condition that will pass state police inspection at all timesOperate bus in accordance with established federal, state and local proceduresBe knowledgeable of, and comply with, all applicable laws, ordinances, rules and procedures relative to the operation and use of School BusMust maintain safety, order and discipline aboard busComplete required reportsOperate 2-way radio in accordance with federal, local and state regulationsOther duties as assigned by the Transportation Director and/or designeeEducation, Experience and QualificationsHigh School graduate/GED equivalentMust be 21 years of ageMust have or be willing to obtain a Valid Indiana Commercial Driver's License with School Bus Certification (if a CDL license is not currently held, training to obtain will be provided)Must be at least 21 years of ageClean driving recordMust pass physical examination under requirements of IC 20-9-1, and includes passing drug screening, extensive criminal background, and complete PSM in allotted timeIf needed, complete 32 hours of training to obtain your CDL License with the driver trainer and/or any other required trainingAttend the state sponsored 3-day safety meeting.Demonstrate ability to operate all equipment on the busRead and interpret materials, such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manualsAbility to maintain a high level of confidentialityObtain and keep current all required trainingSuccessful interview with Transportation Director or designeeSalary and Benefits By contract, employees are hired as a substitute School Bus Driver before being hired as a contracted School Bus Driver with a permanent route, pay increase, and benefits.
