POSITION: Scale Operator / Security Guard - Part Time (Weekends Only / 12-hour shift)
World class lumber manufacturing facility based in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Vicksburg Forest Products is now embarking on its next phase of growth with significant upgrades throughout the mill along with the addition of a high-speed chip-n-saw line, taking the mill to a production capacity of 180 million board feet annually.
We are seeking a qualified, motivated individual to join our company as a Scale Operator / Security Guard. As part of our team, you use a computerized scale to weigh incoming and outgoing trucks, logging information relevant to each truck, including vehicle type, tags, and driver. You accurately record this data for billing purposes and perform regular audits to ensure appropriate billing. This position requires moderate computer proficiency, and our ideal candidate has prior experience with trucking, data entry, and industrial workplace safety.
Responsibilities:
- Use a computer to record the weights of incoming and outgoing vehicles
- Log information into a centralized database
- Calculate costs for drivers based on vehicle weight
- Maintain a safe, organized working environment
- Drive tractor-trailer to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering.
- Controls traffic by directing drivers.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.
- Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
- Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Work in a safe manner using proper PPE.
Required Skills:
- Valid (Class A) CDL with safe driving record on public highways and logging roads.
- Moderate Computer proficiency.
- Experience in rucking or in an industrial yard environment
- Basic Math Skills
- Experience with radio communication
- Two years of verifiable experience operating a semi-truck/trailer.
- Be safety-conscious and adhere to all the safety procedures and practices.
- Successful completion of a post-offer drug screen.
Environmental Conditions:
- Must be able to tolerate extreme hot, humid, cold, and outdoor conditions. Comfortable working in loud environment, around moving machinery, with vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
