JOB SUMMARY:
Provides frontline customer service at the Mesa County Solid Waste Management Campus. Check in customers; check out customers and collect payment; provide general information to residents regarding all Mesa County Solid Waste Management services, products, programs, and activities; and maintain the general cleanliness and maintenance of the Scale House or fee station and surrounding areas.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Welcome customers, verify their load meets the requirements for drop-off at the facility, answer their questions, direct customer to appropriate disposal or material pick-up area, and provide recommendations to ensure proper waste disposal.
Operate landfill scale, computer, cash register, and other related office equipment to enter and maintain data.
Determine appropriate fees for solid waste disposal and compost sales in accordance with the rate schedule, collect fees, and direct customer to appropriate disposal or material pick-up area.
Answer customer questions related to policies and regulations of the Solid Waste Division.
Confer with customers to verify refuse or green waste being dropped off complies with Federal, State, and Mesa County regulations and policies.
Educate customers on Division policies and enforce policies as needed.
Collect payment; count back change, ensure checks are properly filled out, and take credit card payment.
Answer Solid Waste Management phones and provide customer service by answering questions directly or redirecting calls to personnel within the Division or to other agencies as appropriate.
Organize and document proper disposal of special wastes by coordinating and connecting manifests and transaction tickets.
Alert staff of vehicles requiring load inspections or customers who need additional assistance.
Provide daily transaction reports for cash, credit, and no-charge transactions.
Monitor Public Drop-Off area, Recycle Yard, and green waste drop-off areas for illegal dumping.
Lock and unlock facilities and offices as needed.
Perform weekly janitorial duties.
Perform grounds maintenance outside of Scale House or fee station.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:- High school diploma or equivalent; and,
- Six (6) months similar experience in customer service
- Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge,
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- A valid driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Work is generally confined to a standard office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
This position is 40 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday, 6:30AM - 3:00PM.
