Job description

Satellite Office Ophthalmic Support Representative

The Satellite Office Ophthalmic Support Representative position is responsible to collect and input patient demographic and clinical information for the creation and/or maintenance of a medical record to facilitate the ophthalmologist's exam, specified testing and billing process. This position supports the providers as it relates to preparing patients for and assisting ophthalmologist in patient care and education, accomplished through patient care and efficient office flow. This team member’s primary office location will be in Hinesville, GA.

The candidate should be able to:

  • Place outbound phone calls and/or conduct an internet lookup to insurance companies (or their website) to verify coverage and eligibility statuses prior to new patient appointments, to include obtaining any necessary managed care referral guidelines
  • Communicate to patient any pending insurance referral/authorization requirements based on the appointment type
  • Ensure required patient referral/authorizations are received prior to visit
  • Complete and confirm determining if the selected insurance benefit plan is appropriate based on patient’s appointment need
  • Collecting patient deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance, as appropriate for the visit; collecting cash rate patient’s visit estimate prior to the visit
  • Process daily insurance and consult paperwork to include data entry of verified insurance and updating notes
  • Utilize practice management system to obtain pending appointments
  • Interview patients for accurate demographic registration into practice management system, to include inputting complete insurance and/or authorization data
  • Accurately and efficiently recording ophthalmologists' exam from verbal communications to patient records
  • Correct screening and questioning patient of medical and ocular history and chief complaint
  • Determining by objective testing what combination of optical lenses results in optical correction of the eye
  • Measurement of visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, glare test (contrast sensitivity), Amsler grid and confrontation fields
  • Operate special instruments and acquire accurate readings of tonometry (measurement of intraocular pressure), lensometry (neutralization of glasses), keratometry (measurement of corneal curvatures), pupil evaluation (measurement of pupils)
  • Preparing and assisting in lasers and minor office surgical procedures
  • Review and explain patient's exam, ophthalmologists' instructions and follow up plan
  • Files documents in electronic medical record, as required

Education Specific Training/Special Skills: Prior medical office experience or training program preferred, but not required

This position will have a home office in Hinesville, but may travel to other Satellite Offices.
