Fairwinds Technologies is looking for an experienced SATCOM Engineer to organize and coordinate the day-to-day activities within their assigned program(s). This person will provide their technical expertise in SATCOM to multiple teams internally and externally, as customer requirements evolve. Additionally, the SATCOM Engineer will work with the Program Manager, Network Engineer, and other program assets to ensure technical requirements and milestones are met.
Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD, or DMV Area- Remote with Travel up to 20%

Minimum Qualifications
- DoD Secret Clearance
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering.
- 10+ years’ experience in RF Systems, particularly beyond line-of-sight, Engineering or Communications Engineering.
- Experience performing systems analysis, requirements, & design for RF systems.
- Experience translating customer requirements into solution(s).
- Experience with SATCOM Hardware, Waveforms and Access Techniques.
- Experience briefing Senior Leadership and Customers on Technical matters.
- Experience designing and analyzing system & unit level tests.
- Proven ability to create system design/architectures, reports, & related technical documentation.
- Experience with micro and very small aperture terminals (mSAT and VSAT).
- Experience with satellite modems including, but not limited to: iDirect, Network Centric Waveform and other commercial satellite modems as well
- Experience with RF devices including: Up Converters, Down Converters, High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), Low Noise Blocks (LNBs); Waveguides (rigid, flex, and elliptical) joints and connections, Intermediate Frequency (IF) switching, Antennas, Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA), Antenna Control Unit (ACU) and all associated cables, connection interfaces and interconnects.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Project Manager to ensure all deliverables meet customer requirements and milestones.
- Perform RF chain analysis to understand potential changes and their impact to the overall system.
- Perform engineering studies and analysis on satellite terminal systems.
- Provide technical input to all logistics documentation including LORA, Technical Manuals, Training packages, and Logistics Demonstration Reports.
- Provide technical support and expertise in multiple logistics demonstrations in the areas of system configuration, troubleshooting, data collection and analysis, and reporting.
- Predicts performance and/or operational characteristics under a given scenario.
- Review technical documentation related to design, implementation, and sustainment of satellite terminals.
- Provide technical support to the development and management of safety documentation and efforts.
- Provide technical support to Human Factors Integration and Engineering efforts.
- Verbally articulate the design considerations for a Satellite Communications solution.
- Create or provide input for Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) as required.
- Provide Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 network support for complex RF systems and Troubleshooting to identify sources of problems and resolve issues.
- Collaborates with Customer engineering groups on complex design issues.Provide on-the-job training to military personnel, as requested.
- May require travel of up to 15%.
- Additional duties assigned as needed.

This is a full time, exempt position.
