Job Summary:
As a Sanitation Worker In the food manufacturing industry, you play a critical role in ensuring cleanliness and safety within our food production facilities. You will be responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in processing areas, equipment, and storage areas to meet food safety standards. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to strict sanitation protocols, and a commitment to upholding food hygiene regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A Sanitation Worker I is expected to perform one or more of the following essential job functions based on the business assignment (detailed):
· Disassemble, clean, and sanitize production equipment such as mixers, conveyors, and processing machinery according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Ensure all surfaces in processing areas are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to prevent cross-contamination.
· Follow sanitation schedules to ensure timely and efficient cleaning of equipment and production areas.
· Clean and sanitize floors, walls, ceilings, and drains in production areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
· Remove any spilled food, debris, or waste materials promptly to prevent contamination.
· Dispose of waste and trash in designated containers following proper procedures.
· Monitor for signs of pests and report any issues to supervisors.
· Take preventive measures such as sealing cracks and crevices to prevent pest entry into production areas.
· Coordinate with pest control services as needed to address pest infestations.
· Handle and use cleaning chemicals and sanitizers according to safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
· Dilute chemicals to proper concentrations and apply them safely to surfaces.
· Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals.
· Inspect equipment for cleanliness and functionality before and after use.
· Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
· Proper hygiene practices, including wearing appropriate uniforms and PPE, are required at all times.
Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications:
· Previous experience in sanitation, preferably in a food manufacturing or processing environment.
· Knowledge of food safety regulations and HACCP principles.
· Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures and work independently.
· Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
· Basic understanding of chemical handling and safety protocols.
· Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· High school diploma or equivalent educational experience; vocational school or trade apprenticeships is a plus.
· 1-year experience working in a food processor facility (desirable).
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Stamina to perform physical tasks such as cleaning, scrubbing, and sanitizing for extended periods. Flexibility to work in tight spaces and at varying heights (using ladders or platforms). The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles of any kind; some areas of the manufacturing location could be extremely cold or hot. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high; some areas require noise protection.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
