Sanitation Driver/Laborer

Under the immediate supervision of the Sanitation Superintendent, the Sanitation Driver/Laborer operates refuse and recycling trucks and performs refuse/recycling/composting collection for the Borough of Phoenixville. Work involves lifting heavy containers and loading contents into refuse collection trucks and performing physically strenuous activities such as lifting furniture and other heavy items left for collection.

Education/Experience

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements

• Must possess general knowledge of hand and power tools
• Must have the ability to meet approved physical standards
• Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brakes endorsement

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate Borough refuse and recycling trucks
• Pick up of municipal refuse and recycling on the back of the vehicles
• Clean and wash equipment and machinery
• Assist with bulk trash pick-up
• Assist with leaf/yard waste pickup
• Assist with customer service and documentation at the compost site
• Maintenance of Borough properties
• Internal maintenance of Borough buildings as required
• Run hand and power equipment
• Assist with removal of snow on Borough sidewalks at Borough buildings, parks and properties
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple oral and written instructions
• Carry out the job functions with or without supervision and without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, lift, or move objects that weigh up to 50 pounds
• Ability to sit, stand, perform fine manipulation, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods of time in excess of 30 minutes
• Ability to work in adverse or extreme environmental and weather conditions (day or night)
• Ability to work, walk, and stand on unstable soil conditions
• Ability to withstand noise
• Ability to withstand dust, dirt, pollen, and odors
• May be exposed to animals, insects, chemicals, toxic metals, and moving mechanical parts
• Ability to drive large trucks for extended periods in all weather conditions

Licenses/Certifications

• Must possess a valid PA Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brakes endorsement

Job Type: Full-time
