A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SAND PLANT OPERATOR:

As a Sand Plant Operator in our impressive wet screening operation, you are the lifeline for keeping R.W. Sidley's sand and gravel operation running effectively in order to manufacture product going to customers that include water filtration plants, steel plants, turf contractors, box stores, and many more. You are inspecting high frequency screens and conveyors for potential issues, fueling up the plant, hosing of areas where sand builds up, changing parts and screens as needed, shoveling sand and cleaning where necessary, and providing routine maintenance and minor repairs. You are also logging daily/weekly reports on your progress to those who need to know (your supervisor, quality control, etc).

You work closely and frequently with the Operations Manager, the Loader Operator that feeds the operation, Maintenance staff who fix the plant, and others. Sometimes your work is as simple as running and logging sieve tests. But other times there are days where difficult maintenance tasks (like changing screens) are required, or bigger fixes (taking apart a high frequency screen) are needed where you need to use your communication skills to listen to where the Operations Manager or Maintenance staff needs you to go and do what they need you to do. Most of your time is spent monitoring whether the plant is producing the sand/gravel as expected, but when you're not there's plenty of opportunity to make sure the plant is clean and parts are organized. You are all about listening to your Operations Manager and helping in any way you can. Sometimes you fill in to operate heavy equipment such as loaders or excavators.
