Summary of Position:
The Sample Sewer is responsible for accurately sewing and finishing first prototypes through production approval/fit samples within acceptable timeframes.
Essential Functions:
- Work closely with manufacturing group including, fabric cutter, pattern maker, and technical design to create apparel samples of newly created designs.
- Compare pattern to cut apparel samples to ensure they match, ensuring the prototype is consistent in size, measurement, and feel.
- Sew the sample garment accurately using proper machinery and tools. Discuss any sewing problems with the pattern maker and troubleshoot as team for root cause analyses and corrections.
- Add finishing touches and trims to sample garments (press, steam, sew labels, buttons, etc.) accurately as indicated on the specification and tech pack by the required deadline.
- Discuss sewing techniques with pattern maker if no sew by sample is provided.
- Additional responsibilities as needed, and additional production projects.

Competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities):
- Knowledge of sewing different fabrics and weights; twill, canvas, and vinyl fabrics, and other varieties of materials.
- Extensive experience in effectively and safely operating the following sewing machinery with limited supervision, including but not limited to the following sewing machines: single needle, double needle, 4-thread and 5-thread overlock, coverstitch, flatlock, buttonhole, keyhole and bartack machines, etc. Additional non sewing machinery to complete sample such as scissors, etc.
- High level of workmanship, attention to detail, with sense of urgency and sensitive to deadlines

Work environment:
- Warehouse environment – exposure to changes in temperature
- Subject to noise – when working near machinery and/or vehicles
- Subject to hazards – including proximity to moving mechanical parts and vehicles
Physical Demands:
- Sitting – 75% daily (depending on machine designation)
- Standing or walking – 25% daily (depending on machine designation)
- Visual acuity (20/40 – correctable by glasses/contacts)
- Repetitive motions
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to grasp and perform fine manipulations with hands.

Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous industrial sewing machine operation
