Job Description
Under direct supervision, assist Manager, Indirect Tax with sales, use, property, backup withholding and other tax compliance. Analyzes tax law to provide recommendations for tax positions and contributes to the development process improvements. Also assists in providing tax support to multi-departmental disciplines and the Independent Sales Force.
Responsibilities
- Sales and Use Tax: Applies basic knowledge of sales, use and property tax laws, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, systems, data analytics and compliance skills as follows:
- With direct supervision, prepares sales, use, business license and gross receipt tax returns, reconciliations and journal entries;
- Assist with daily review and processing of Ariba invoices tax exceptions;
- With close supervision, serves as a resource, communicates and resolves issues with taxing jurisdictions, Independent Beauty Consultants, outside vendors and internal customers;
- Assist with sales and use tax law research;
- Under close supervision, assist with system administration of Vertex O Series and Returns;
- Under close supervision assist with preparing audit documentation;
- With direct supervision, assist with the preparation of domestic property tax returns;
- Re-engineers tax compliance to increase efficiencies and to meet new taxing jurisdiction requirements;
- Responds to exemption requests.
- Information Reporting: Applying general knowledge of federal and state information reporting requirements to assist with the preparation of semiweekly, mid-month and month end back up withholding remittance and compliance for Federal and state.
- Other Taxes and Task: Assists with other projects as assigned to support corporate tax operations.
Skills & Experience
Experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting with an emphasis in tax. Qualified to sit for the CPA exam preferred.
- Analysis: With guidance, analyze moderate to complex information. Demonstrate ability to develop solutions to problems.
- Communication: Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Influence: Able to produce a desired effect by building and maintaining trusting relationships.
- Internal Controls: Ability to review and understand company financial policies and procedures and ensure that these policies and procedures are followed.
- Professional Skepticism: Ability to identify unusual transactions and investigate root cause.
- Storytelling with Data: Able to organize data in a way that is easily understandable to an audience. Can develop a narrative from the data to communicate results or ideas effectively.
- Technology: Ability to utilize existing digital tools and technologies to perform tasks at a high level of productivity.
- Timeliness/Quality: Should possess organizational and time management skills. Ability to self-review work to minimize mistakes in completed work product.
- Tools: Proficient in the use of software tools and systems; this includes Microsoft Office applications and understanding of relevant tax preparation software.
